The Westside Waves accommodate swimmers of all ages and abilities.

During their two-week trial period, each swimmer’s skill level and abilities are assessed so that they are placed in the appropriate practice group.

Our goal is to provide a practice environment in which each swimmer is able to thrive, feel challenged and enjoy coming to practice!

Green Group
The Green Group is our younger and newer swimmers. The goal is to focus on the fundamentals of competitive swimming: stroke development, technique, and building of a work ethic. Another important aspect to keeping younger and beginner athletes engaged in the sport is fun, so we strive to incorporate that into each of the Green and White team practices.

Typically we start the youngest and newest swimmers on the team, ranging anywhere from 6 years old to 10 years old. Our priority with them is acclimating them to practice environment, familiarizing them with all 4 strokes, and of course, showing them how fun and exciting swimming can be! The next steps we continue to emphasize drills and stroke technique, begin to develop their strength and conditioning and introduce more challenging workouts.

Bronze Group
This is a diverse practice group, composed of young swimmers who already have several years of competitive swimming experience and older swimmers who have just started their swimming career. With the Bronze Group, we start to refine stroke technique and really focus on building up their conditioning.

Gold Group
Middle school and high school age swimmers who have learned and started to refine all 4 strokes but need further conditioning and fine-tuning to reach the top tier of their age group. Here we introduce the finer details of preparing for meets, race strategies and swimming longer, more challenging events. The expectation is that Silver Group swimmers commit themselves to practices at minimum 3-4 times per week.

Composed of highly motivated and typically very experienced athletes. They generally compete at the top tier of their age group, and their commitment to reaching the next level is demonstrated by their dedication at practices. There are no age restrictions, but typically a swimmer has not reached the maturity level required for this kind of commitment until middle school or high school. At this level, we focus on precision stroke technique, rigorous strength & aerobic conditioning, and enhanced meet preparation.
